Mr. Korschot is the President of Stern Brothers Valuation Advisors and has been involved in the areas of finance and business valuation since 1970. He began his career in finance with Goldman Sachs and prior to joining Stern Brothers & Co. in 1984, he worked for Commerce Bank and then served as a Group Vice President (Commercial Banking) with Mercantile Bank (now U.S. Bank).

Mr. Korschot has received the highest professional designations awarded in the business valuation profession. Our research has found that there are fewer than 10 professionals in the United States that have achieved this combination of professional designations directly related to business valuation. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (“CFA”), having successfully passed three comprehensive, rigorous examinations involving equity and fixed income securities analysis, financial accounting, quantitative analysis, economics, portfolio management, and ethical and professional standards. He has completed the Accredited Senior Appraiser (“ASA”) and Master Certified Business Appraiser (“MCBA”) designations that require extensive training, knowledge, and experience involving business valuations. He is a Licensed Certified Public Accountant (“CPA”) in the State of Missouri and is Accredited in Business Valuation (“ABV”) by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants which requires training and experience in business valuation. Mr. Korschot has a B.A. in Economics from DePauw University, an M.B.A. from St. Louis University and is a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University.
Experience
Mr. Korschot has issued over 5,000 valuation reports since 1985. His clients include both privately held and publicly traded companies, and their attorneys and accountants for which he has served as independent appraiser, financial advisor or expert witness.
Mr. Korschot serves on the Board of Directors of Stern Brothers Valuation Advisors; and has served on the Board of Directors of Goodwill Industries of Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas, Missouri United Methodist Foundation, Olympic Wire Rope, Bingham & Company Capital Markets, Inc. and the Kansas City Society of Financial Analysts. Mr. Korschot is past President of the American Society of Appraisers (Kansas City Chapter), past Regional Governor of the Institute of Business Appraisers, Inc., and past President of the Kansas City Society of Financial Analysts. He is a member of numerous professional and civic organizations and associations including the American Society of Appraisers (served on the Investment Committee), the CFA Institute, and The Institute of Business Appraisers, the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Kiwanis Club. He is a member of The ESOP Association, The National Center for Employee Ownership (NCEO) and the Employee-owned S Corporations of America (ESCA). He is a member of the ESCA Advisory Committee providing valuation advisory services. He is past President of the Heart of America Chapter of the ESOP Association, past Chair of the Valuation Advisory Committee, past Vice Chair of the State and Regional Chapter Council and has served on the Board of Governors of The ESOP Association. He co-authored the book An Introduction to ESOP Valuations.
Mr. Korschot has lectured frequently on valuation issues to groups such as the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Robert Morris Associates, the Cambridge Institute, UMKC Law School, UMKC Bloch School of Business, the University of Kansas School of Law, the Estate Planning Society of Kansas City, The ESOP Association, The National Center for Employee Ownership, the American Society of Appraisers and at seminars across the United States. He has appeared before U.S. Federal Courts and others as an expert witness and testifies frequently concerning valuation issues.
In his free time, John enjoys spending time with his family and friends at the lake, playing golf, exercise of all kinds and traveling.
